AFTERGLOW by Maria Monroe

aftergow pic

Nina can shoot a gun, start a fire, and kick some serious ass. So when a killer virus and solar storm decimate the country, she’s as prepared as possible to survive. She just needs a motorcycle to navigate the cluttered roads and meet up with her family.

Creed, former Marine, is tattooed and tough. He’s scarred inside and out. Loss is no stranger to him, and he avoids getting close to anyone at all costs.

When Nina tries to steal his motorcycle they have a vicious fight, but necessity and attraction force them into an uneasy alliance. They travel together through the dangerous landscape, where trouble lurks around every corner and they need each other to survive.

But the biggest danger just might be falling in love.

Equally as exciting as it is sexy, Afterglow contains graphic sex and some violence, so please read at your own risk. 18+ recommended.

Welcome to Graffiti Fiction

This is a love story, is very romantic even when is set in an post- apocalyptic world. I enjoy it a lot. I was hooked from the very beginning, the survival and the dialogs captured my attention right away.   The male character is Creed, if the end of earth come you’ll absolutely want this ex-military man in your life, he knows everything and is so strong, and Nina! She is one of the strongest female characters I have ever read; together they are a really explosive couple in every way, which brings you an exciting, and fun plot. The central theme is the romance between them but there is action and the best part for me was the end. I appreciate when I get rewarded for all that angst in post-apocalyptic tragedies. So yes! 5 stars.

wendy Synopsis

From the moment Evan saw her, something inside of him clicked; he knew he had found a friend for life and he’d do anything to protect her. As time went by their friendship grew to something more, something natural and unexpected, fierce and powerful, yet so fragile that merely words could rip them apart.

And it did…

Will he be able to rekindle what he lost or will a slip of the tongue keep them from salvaging what they had?

For Piper, past deceptions and memories continue to pull her down and keep her prisoner, yet there is one thing that still holds her steady and pulls her back from the darkness of her past; simple words that became her beacon. Will she be able to learn to let go or will the echoes of Evan’s voice be the only thing that keeps her safe as he whispers, «Listen to my breaths, keep your eyes on me, watch my mouth and Piper…Breathe With Me.»

I absolutely love the twist and angst in this book, and the relationship between the two main characters, it’s a really good story and is full of characters that i would like to know more, that is always a plus for me. The hero is so sweet and caring but still he’s tough guy.
The only thing that I didn’t like so much was that the cover is so obvious that I was imagining Nick & Jessica Simpson (blonde and dumb) during the whole thing and well… that’s really hard to ignore when you try to hear the conversation in your head, but i think is a good thing because they are in highschool and that’s the way it, there’s a lot of strong experiences and you can get a glimpse of the future but still get a surprise once in a while. I had a very good time reading this book , you should enjoy it too.

After Talmadge’s colossal gaffe yesterday at Joe’s, the chances of Miranda letting him take over the renovations at the inn were about as good as her contractor giving back her money. The way he saw it, he had two options. One: play the I’m-your- creditor card and take charge of the renovations whether she agreed or not. When it came to any kind of building project, everyone followed his lead. Hell, he’d earned that leadership roll in world of architecture. Miranda’s face glowed red with anger.

Right. Option one wasn’t working out so well. He shifted to option two: make her think she was still in charge. “Don’t be foolish, Miranda. You need help with this place.” Talmadge was trying real hard to keep his mind and eyes off the taut nipples showing through her thin shirt. The moment he’d turned and saw her standing in the dining room staring at him with sleepy eyes and messy pillow hair…glaring at all of them over the absurdity of superheroes while wearing silly cartoon pajamas… Well, hell. His throat had closed up, and he’d wanted to toss her over his shoulder and take her to back to bed. This time with him in it too.

IT’S IN HIS SMILE by Shelly Alexander

Miranda Cruz isn’t just the best darned waitress in town anymore; she’s Red River’s newest innkeeper. But first, she has to find the contractor who’s disappeared with her life savings so she can start renovations. Not so easy for a woman who never depends on anyone, especially a man. And when a gorgeous old flame shows up, the fire between them is reignited and threatens to send her dreams up in smoke.

Acclaimed environmental architect Talmadge Oaks returns home to Red River on family business. He plans to get in and get out quickly because a professional catastrophe is waiting back in Washington. When an unforeseen snag keeps him in Red River longer than expected, he finds himself entangled in the renovations of his late grandmother’s Victorian inn. Handy with a hammer, he offers to help the beautiful new owner, but his motives aren’t completely selfless. Will his secret demolish everything they are building? Or can their undeniable passion keep them together?

Small town with closed minded people, a good romance and lots and lots of fun… this story was really good, I love it, the characters are beautiful, Miranda is a girl that kept her head down, works very hard she works hard to achieve their goals and does not ask favors to anyone, and Talmadge… he is such a strong character, I love him, he is a successful architect going through a very difficult phase in his life, but both of them have a secret in the past, and destiny wants for that to continue in the future. I’ve had so much fun reading this book that when I neared the end I did not want to finish it, but I had to. Now I’ll read the other books in this series.

Six of Hearts by L.H. Cosway

6 heartsBLURB

Step right up and meet Jay Fields: Illusionist. Mentalist. Trickster.

I think in triangles. You think in straight lines.
I show you a table and make you believe it’s a chair.
Smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, misdirection. I trick and deceive.
But most of all, I put on a good show.
The world thinks I killed a man, but I didn’t. Bear with me. It’s all a part of the plan.
Revenge is what I want. I want it for me and I want it for her.
I want it for all six of us.

She doesn’t remember me, but she’s the reason for everything. She’ll be my prize at the end of all this–if I can hold onto my willpower, that is. Maybe I’ll slip up a little, have a taste, just a small one.

So go ahead and pick a card. Come inside and see the show. Look at my hands, look so closely that you can’t see what’s happening while you’re so focused on looking. I’ll be destroying your world from right here in the spotlight.

You’ll never see me coming until it’s too late.

I’ve only got one heart, and after I’ve pulled off my grand deception I’ll hand it right to her.

So, sit back, relax, and let my girl tell you our story. You’re in for one hell of a ride.

This book is the first thing i have read about this author, and I really liked the narrative, is chronological, mysterious and entertaining, but has a strong start, I IMMEDIATELY sympathized with the hero of the story. It is not the typical story, and rather say that skips a little the romance parameter,  but all in all remains a dynamic love story.

It develops in this time and it happens between Ireland and England, and tells the story of Jay an illusionist and Matilda the only daughter of a local lawyer. It is very interesting because it will give you the feeling that this tale is the story of Jay but somehow he «allows» Matilda to tell the facts, I was expecting that suddenly HE will start narrating everything, and that was quite interesting.  Both are defined as very independent people and in the course of the plot their love is tested several times, i feel a great connection but a higher goal and the only way to ease the tension between the two of them is Jay’s very entertaining language and ideas.

This book develops the story completely around the central characters, with an intricate enough plot, and you will not find overdeveloped secondary character, and I think that is great!  It’s very interesting, so I gladly recommend it.

Definitely one of my favorite phrases is:

“Something you should know about me, I’m never bored,” he murmurs. “The chance for boredom would be a fine thing, but this fucking brain of mine never stops.”

Kindle Edition, 358 pages, published July 26th 2014.

epldlm Today I will share with you the wonderful experience that is The Little Book of the Muses, written by Khaled Talib. I read the Spanish edition,
and it’s a very light reading, as it is a composed only of inspiring quotes for writers, but also can be useful for a readers,
or even better for an aspiring writer which is my case. Every author goes through that infamous «writer’s block» at least once, and usually it ends with some trigger to restart the creativity that his work deserves, and that is when this book can help. I had it in my hands last night, and i didn’t stop reading until i was finish with the last sentence, several of them became my favorites, as they are a way to motivate in any intellectual or spiritual task,
and not exclusively on the task of writing; Is incredibly powerful and I think is mandatory for writers. For me, this has the five stars.
